~AROUND THE FARM~
Sapphire Farms is actually two farms about a half mile apart in south central Pennsylvania. Mary and Sue are sisters with a common love of the Arabian horse. We thought you might enjoy some images from our little corner of the world...
Pennsylvania Whitetail deer photos taken in March 2008 from Mary's porch!
What's this? Mary discovered this friendly addition one day while feeding in late October 2006. Obviously a domestic rat, we figure one of the neighborhood kids is missing a pet. It knows the feeding schedule and patiently waits for scraps from the horses, running in and out of the loafing sheds. We have dubbed this white rat "Clorox" since we're unsure of it's sex. Will one of the cats end this saga? Will Clorox make it through the winter? We'll keep you posted... *Clorox has disappeared. Let's all hope for the best...
Our beloved Decker Terrier, Lexi. She is getting older now and the vivid brown markings on her face are turning white but she is still one of the best canine companions I have ever had. This rare breed is starting to make a comeback. These dogs are intelligent thinkers, loyal, clean and just the right size!
Lungwort, a shade plant, in full bloom.
An Iris Mary gave to her daughter Jennifer. Mary is an Iris fanatic and has quite a beautiful collection of the Tall Bearded varieties. We'll post more photos in the spring.
A colorful Pennsylvania rainbow in November after a storm.
Homozygous black broodmare LR Elana in her "everyday attire".
Butter, guest greeter and property patrol.
